Xavier Mestre - Empower

XavierXavier's first involvement with Sylvanvale was through the Transition to Work Program. Xavier had the opportunity to develop work skills and gain experience in a variety of employment settings. Xavier's favourite workplace was Catering and he was so enthusiastic to make an impression that he would often take his food from the oven before it was cooked. He soon realised that taste was more important than speed and became an avid cook, enjoying the job so much that he became a full-time employee in 2005.

Xavier has an intellectual disability and Sylvanvale has supported Xavier to make the transition from school to adult life and has helped him develop the skills to increase his confidence and independence. Xavier has a big personality and is always smiling. He is a great member of the team and is well known throughout his local community, so much so that the local paper ran an article about him receiving his first paycheque. He is a keen sportsman and has represented Australia in ten-pin bowling.

He loves his job and is very proud of his achievements. He adores his family and has recently become an uncle a fact that he is excited and proud of. Xavier is growing into a confident young man and we have played a small part in empowering him to take life's challenges in his stride and always with his trademark smile.
