Alan has been connected to Sylvanvale since he was four years old starting school at our Mikarie Place site in 1952. Alan has an intellectual disability and down's syndrome and Rosemary his sister recalls the positive difference Sylvanvale made to Alan and the rest of the family, "Attending school did a lot for Alan, we were all going to school and so was he, it allowed him to be like the rest of us".

Alan's involvement with Sylvanvale continued after school successfully gaining a job at the Mailing House. He was an enthusiastic and motivated employee and would take great pride in picking up his weekly pay packet to take home to mum.

Now in his senior years age poses no barrier to Alan. He attends College, participates wholeheartedly in dance and gym classes, works in the Café, swims weekly, and attends social events, chatting with anyone he meets.

Alan has become the face of Sylvanvale in promotional materials and at fundraising events. His personality, infectious sense of humour and ability to see the funny side of life make him a great ambassador for Sylvanvale. His engaging personality draws people to him and once you've met him, you will undoubtedly leave with a smile on your face and your day will be brighter.
