Sylvanvale’s 8th annual Cronulla Charity Golf Day was held on 9 November with a very strong field of 112 golfers eager to battle the newly configured par 67 layout. Although the wind was up it was a beautiful Spring day with temperatures up around 26 degrees on the course. Teams registered at 11.30am and were treated to a barbecue lunch overlooking the 18th green before preparing for a 12.30 shotgun start.
The main event was an Ambrose Competition using the combined team’s handicaps and we also offered a variety of other prizes for Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin (male and female), and a couple of Betting Holes encouraging players to back their ability to land on the green or within a set distance from the pin. Conditions were perfect for low scoring and all teams finished with sub-par scores.
We were delighted to welcome Kay Sanger to present the prizes with this year’s winners of the Trevor Sanger Memorial Trophy with a net score of 51 going to Peter Brinsley, John Wallace (Trevor’s brother-in law who had travelled from Gooloogong in the NSW Central West), Paul Chaplin and Sylvanvale’s own John Kelly. Finishing a close second was the team from Burraneer Bay Real Estate and third spot was claimed by the G.D. Morton crew. The Alphapharm Ladies team took out first place in the women’s division.
After the prize-giving, guests heard from Ricky Stuart who shared his thoughts on the coming season for the Sharks, and were entertained by clever comedian Paul Martell. The day was a phenomenal success and we thank everybody who participated in this wonderful event and gave generously to support Sylvanvale. We would like to thank all the staff at Cronulla Golf Club for making the day so enjoyable and also go to Course Superintendant Paul Duffi and his team for the course presentation. Special mention must go to Rob Aitken, Barry Morton and Don McKinnon and their band of volunteers (who are too many to name) for the countless hours of organisation and hard work throughout the year and on the day.
