Art in the Garden was a unique exhibition of paintings, sculpture and mixed media displayed throughout Sylvanvale’s Garden House and grounds in Sutherland. Showcasing the talents of artists from Sylvanvale, New Era and Windgap, this innovative collection of works was the brainchild of well known artist Dominique Hindmarsh. Ms Hindmarsh said “I’m so proud of the fantastic work the artists have produced. Most of the pieces displayed were a real collaborative effort, with artists sharing ideas, materials and above all a love of art”. The exhibition was well attended by friends, family and locals and Sutherland Shire Mayor Lorraine Kelly formally acknowledged the impressive collection of works produced by the artists and the success of the art therapy program. The exhibition was accompanied by a tea party, with cupcakes, delicacies and miniature slices. The ambiance was completed by musical interludes provided by Anne Howland and Pippa Wallace. Sylvanvale CEO Pauline Stanley said “It was a wonderful way to view the artworks and the symbolism of the garden and the individual pieces was appreciated by all participants”. Displayed in the garden were murals, mosaics, paintings and a large water feature made from an old bath. Many of the pieces are for sale by negotiation with the artist but most pieces will take pride of place at the artist’s homes. We hope to build on the success of this first exhibition and continue to take art into unusual settings to increase access and awareness amongst the local community. We plan to extend invitations to all local services and make the event a must see attraction as part of the Sutherland Shire's cultural calendar. |
