| Kogarah Golf Day 2010 |
The second Kogarah Golf Day was held on the 23rd of March - a spectacular early autumn day. It may have been dark as the teams tucked into breakfast but by tee-off time the sun was shining and golfers were preparing for a beautiful and clear 29 degrees out on the course. More than 70 players teed off, raising funds for Sylvanvale’s Children’s Services, and the course presented a tough test for all. Teams were playing for the Trevor Sanger Memorial Trophy. This year’s winners - after a fierce competition - were CMC Building Works; Chris McPherson, John Salmon, Rod Fisher and Stuart Pierce with a nett score of 56. They were closely followed by team Air DJH on 57 and QBE came in third with a score of 59. In accepting the trophy, the winning captain spoke highly about the event and said not only was it an enjoyable day but represented great value for money given the cause for which the funds were being raised". After the formal presentations teams were treated to the now legendary buffet lunch and many took the opportunity to share their stories about great drives, putts left short and some shots that were best forgotten. During lunch players were invited to participate in a raffle and bid for some sporting memorabilia. The AFL prize of a bundle of Sydney Swans tickets and passes to the QBE Club Room drew the biggest bids closely followed by a pair of signed Roosters and St George jerseys. Our thanks go to John Brown and his team for another memorable day and we also thank our generous supporters and sponsors for getting behind such a good cause. Our next fundraising golf event is at Cronulla Golf Course on Monday 8 November. For more information, to sponsor a hole, or to enter a team of players, please contact Lee Thompson on 8536 0112.
