Classic times

Memories were made at the fourth annual Cook Community Classic carnival held at Cronulla on Sunday 20 November. Sylvanvale Targeted Support Volunteer Graham AKA Cappy, got his first tattoo. A large black shark was sprayed onto his bicep. “The Cronulla Sharks are my favourite team,” Cappy explained.

The newly formed Sylvanvale Strikers soccer team, consisting of staff from a variety of Sylvanvale services entered the Cook Community Classic beach soccer competition. Ashley, Chris, Damian, Jayson and Rodrigo played their way to the final, winning three and losing one game on the way there. The final was against the team they’d lost against, so the pressure was on to win. And the team didn’t disappoint, leading one-nil at half time and finishing the game three-two up to take home first place.

Sylvanvale also brought smiles and hours of entertainment to many local children with the sale of lucky dip bags. Boys and girls dug into the lucky dip barrels and came up with goodie bags filled with toys, games and lollies. All proceeds went to helping the people with disabilities that Sylvanvale supports.

Sylvanvale Foundation’s Fundraising Manager Loretta Passerini said, “The community support at the Cook Community Classic was fabulous. It was great to see so many people out and about.”

Sylvanvale’s Acting CEO John Kelly echoed Loretta’s thoughts. “The Cook Community Classic is a wonderful way for Sylvanvale to unite with other local community groups. We were pleased to be part of such a fun event.”
