From singing, dancing, jiu-jitsu, cakes, craft and face painting, EmbraceAbility Day had something for everyone. Held on International Day of People with a Disability, the event celebrated the lives and community involvement of people with a disability. The second annual Stroll and Roll walk along the Cronulla Esplanade kicked off the event and the fun didn’t stop. Sylvanvale’s two stands were always busy, with free plaster-painting and face painting for kids. The cakes baked by supported employees at Sylvanvale Catering were extremely popular and sold out before the day was over. Seasoned performers, the Sylvantones took to the stage in front of a large crowd and belted out Christmas tunes including Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, they played bells to the all-time favourite, Jingle Bells and they danced to Lean on Me. Sylvanvale’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu team, Graham, Victor and Mark, demonstrated their sporting prowess on the day too. The three men have been training for over a year and have learnt a range of jiu-jitsu skills. The trio first performed at the 2010 EmbraceAbility Day festival and have since then been working hard and improving their technique and knowledge of the sport. Sylvanvale’s Acting CEO, John Kelly, said “The EmbraceAbility Day festival captures what we’re about – getting involved in the community and showing everyone the wealth of talent at Sylvanvale.”
