Helping your friend, neighbour or even a stranger is part of the Australian culture. It’s what Sylvanvale Foundation has been doing in the Sutherland Shire for over 60 years. And this Australia Day, Sylvanvale was helped by hundreds of Shire residents.

Sylvanvale was the exclusive charity beneficiary of the Sutherland Shire Council’s Australia Day celebrations at Cronulla beach. A raft of amazing staff and volunteers donned the blue Sylvanvale shirts and did a tremendous job of collecting donations and selling Australia Day merchandise such as flags, hats and tattoos. Sylvanvale’s Volunteer Coordinator, Harkeet Sandhu said, “The volunteers represented Sylvanvale in a great light and that’s what made us such a great team on the day.”

The Sutherland Shire public was incredibly generous on the day and through their donations and purchases helped Sylvanvale to raise a substantial amount of money that will be used to fund a variety of Sylvanvale’s services that support children and adults with a disability. “The donations will help us continue to provide a range of opportunities for people with a disability including education, therapy, accommodation options and exciting activities such as choir groups, sporting events and art programs,” said Loretta Passerini, Sylvanvale’s Fundraising Manager.

Sylvanvale acting CEO, John Kelly said, “It was such a brilliant day. The support of the community and the entire Sylvanvale family made the day the success it was. I am honoured to work with such a great bunch of people and days like today confirm that we have something special at Sylvanvale, it is unique, fun and incredibly fulfilling.”
