On 9 November a group of Sylvanvale employees in the Blue Mountains celebrated the completion of Certificate IV in Disability Work. Their regional manager, Bev Taylor, awarded the certificates at a ceremony held at Sylvanvale’s new St Mary’s office, followed by a celebration lunch at St Mary’s Band Club. The staff members began their course in February this year and spent many hours learning and studying - on the job, at workshops and in their own time. The graduates are: Tina Christensen, Maree Grego, Bernard Hawes, Christina Dolva, Joseph Gormley, Catherine Hubbard, Jillian Pateman, Dennis Edghill, Mieke Nyssen, Julieanne Walsh, Nahed Fam, Susan Martin from the Blue Mountains Accommodation Service, as well as Caryn Hogansen, Kerrie Robins, and Amanda Cameron from Teen Time. Jenny Wain from the 2007 course also joined the graduation. The following comments were made by the group when receiving their certificates: “I’ve gained confidence.” “I’ve created an ongoing process in my workplace.” “I can now solve problems.” “I enjoyed the journey.” “Money well spent Sylvanvale!” “I now trust my instincts.” “I didn’t realise how much this course would open my eyes.” “I’m always going to refer to my notes from class - I have all the tools!” “I’ve examined the way I work on a day-to-day basis, and improved.” “An eye-opener.” “I can now make informed choice.” “I’ve been with Sylvanvale for 10 years. Thanks for the opportunity.”
