awards_latest_news

We are very pleased that Kogarah Library have been nominated for an award as part of the 2010 Local Government Cultural Awards. In association with Sylvanvale and House with No Steps Kogarah Council have developed a story-based educational program called Storyworx.

Storyworx encourages participants to experience books and stories, through dramatic, visual and physical styles. The program provides positive stimulation for participants particularly through the use of drama and visuals and the weekly sessions are a highlight for those who attend the Rockdale Service.

Library staff have seen a visible improvement in the response to sessions and there is greater participation and engagement by participants.

Linda Heald, Cultural Officer at Kograh Council said: “There has been a positive learning curve for Library staff in developing the program for a new customer base and the Library now has the opportunity to develop suitable resources for people with an intellectual disability.”

You can view the project using the link below and there is also the opportunity to vote for this project in the People’s Choice Awards.
