On 5 March, more than 20 day program participants at the Sutherland Activity Centre (SAC) helped the 20th Clean up Australia campaign by collecting rubbish from an area adjacent to the SAC.
The team was excited to get involved in this worthwhile event and many participants expressed pride in being able to do their bit for the environment and local community. After a briefing on safety issues, the team set to work, picking up bottles, boxes, lunch wrappers and pieces of paper, as well as an old hat and shoe. Last year’s find – a $50 note – unfortunately wasn’t repeated, but everyone had a great time and were really pleased with their efforts. Each team member received a certificate of appreciation from Clean Up Australia, which earned them loud applause from their peers after all their hard work.
The biggest reward, however, was the ability to do something positive for their community and do their bit to Clean up Australia. Well done all.
