Sporting Success

sporting_success_1_news Sylvanvale Catering’s Felicity Pulver and Matthew Wheelahan have returned victorious from the Special Olympics National Games held in Adelaide in April. They both placed in their respective sports – Felicity received bronze in the tennis doubles, and Matthew’s soccer team placed fourth – and both were cheered on by their extremely enthusiastic families, friends and supporters, as well as other competitors. Felicity also won two of her four matches in the singles tennis, leading her to place fourth overall. Felicity’s mother Robin said: “Spectators were able to watch players on all four courts and the Adelaide Tennis Centre and experienced many heart-stopping moments of intense competition. It was an enjoyable, memorable and successful event.”

The pair joined more than one thousand athletes competing at the Games, which aspires to transform the lives of people with an intellectual disability through sport.

The motto of the Special Olympics is 'Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt.' Matthew and Felicity were certainly more than brave – they truly shone.
