Accessible garden beds installed at the Sutherland Activity Centre (SAC) are enabling people with a disability to pursue their passion for all things horticultural, thanks to the Cronulla Rail Line Alliance.
Located in the backyard of the SAC, a wheelchair ramp and concrete path now provide easy access to the new garden beds, which are positioned at an ergonomic height for people in wheelchairs. “These garden beds, path and ramp are all wonderful additions to the Sutherland Activity Centre,” said Sylvanvale Foundation CEO Pauline Stanley.
“We are grateful for all the work staff and contractors at the Cronulla Rail Line Alliance have done to improve the Sylvanvale facilities at Sutherland,” she said. “They’ve donated materials, time and expertise over recent months and have refurbished a bathroom at the SAC, installed a new greenhouse and fixed drainage at the adjacent Garden House.”
The Sutherland Activity Centre and Garden House are located adjacent to the Cronulla Line Upgrading and Duplication Project. Alliance Manager, William Hart said: “Our aim is to add value to the communities in which we work. One way we do this is by supporting our neighbours at the centre across the road in Rawson Avenue. Sylvanvale is a local organisation that provides valuable support to people with disabilities, and we’re honoured to be able to help them out.”
