Call for Disability Ambassadors |
|

The Blue Mountains will celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) on 3 December and in the week leading up to that date. If you live in the Blue Mountains and have a disability, you may nominate to become a Disability Ambassador.
“We are seeking people who identify as having a disability and who have made the sort of contribution to community that may inspire others”, said David Cretney, Sylvanvale's Community Initiatives Officer. “This community initiative represents a positive step forward for our community, building upon our capacity to recognise and celebrate the gifts and contributions people with disabilities can make."
“International Day of People with Disability is a great opportunity to see that people with disabilities are an integral part of our community, contributing to the diversity and the unique character of the Blue Mountains," said Phillip Menzies from Kirinari Community Services and a member of the Blue mountains IPWD organising committee.
Fellow committee member Andrew Carlin, former Australia basketball captain at the Special Olympics, said: "Having more opportunities for people who have disabilities, including sports, arts events, employment and community activities will benefit the whole community."
Sylvanvale Foundation would like to acknowledge the support of Katoomba RSL Club and the Blue Mountains City Council in the provision of a CDSE grant to help fund this initiative. The IDPWD committee is also seeking interest from accessible businesses to act as partners for the week along with community volunteers.
