The concept of a sensory garden has been germinating for a little while at Sylvanvale’s Sutherland Activity Centre. A volunteer who was studying horticulture came up with the idea and started the small garden. With the help of a little sunshine, watering, care and a generous $5000 donation from BCR, the garden will continue to grow, with an expansion planned for early 2011.
BCR is an Australian-owned international freight forwarding, customs and logistics company with a long local history. BCR Branch Manager Manny Perez and Corporate Account Manager Una McLeish said that, “the staff at BCR wanted to help a community charity. Sylvanvale Foundation’s sensory garden appealed to all of us.”
Sylvanvale acting CEO John Kelly said, “We appreciate the donation from BCR as it will help improve the lives of the people we support and give them new experiences and opportunities.”
BCR Australia has also offered to help build the sensory garden. A number of BCR employees will volunteer their time and elbow grease at the SAC next year.
