Stitched with love

A group of friends who wanted an extra excuse to catch up and sew came up with the concept of a volunteer sewing circle. The 12 women, including Sylvanvale Foundation Accommodation Manager Joanne Coll, meet weekly and stitch up a storm using donated and recycled fabrics.

The hours that follow result in a lot of laughter and a quilt or two.

“Our goal is to give back to the community,” said Joanne. Their recent gatherings produced seven blankets and two picnic rugs.

The group decided to donate the patchwork pieces to Sylvanvale’s children’s service based at Telopea, as the blankets were bright and fun.

The quilts have been well received by the children at the home. Sylvanvale Foundation General Manager of Children’s Services Leanne Fretten said, “we greatly appreciate the kind, thoughtful and practical donation of the beautiful blankets.”
