Imagine growing your own vegetables from seed and then eating them fresh from the garden. That’s what the preschool class at the Mikarie Child Care Centre will have a chance to do thanks to a working bee from a group of Lend Lease volunteers.
The team from Lend Lease, lead by Matt Williams, who is also a Sylvanvale parent, spent Friday 23 September building a collection of raised garden beds at the centre.
Mikarie students will be able to plant seeds, watch them grow and tend to them as part of a hands-on class. The vegetables will then be used to create healthy meals for the children’s’ lunches. “We want to take the students on a journey from seed to plate,” explained Debra Quirk, Manager of Mikarie Child Care Centre.
General Manager of Sylvanvale Foundation Children’s Services, Leanne Fretten, said “We greatly appreciate the generosity and hard work from the Lend Lease team.”
