Sylvanvale Board of Directors

The Sylvanvale Board of Directors is responsible for supervising the management of Sylvanvale and providing strategic direction. It monitors operational and financial performance as well as approving Sylvanvale’s budgets and business plans. It is also responsible for overseeing Sylvanvale’s risk management, financial reporting, compliance framework and service delivery and operations. The Board of Directors is accountable to members and undertakes to serve the interests of employees, customers and the broader community honestly, fairly, diligently and in accordance with applicable laws.

The Board leads by example in adopting governance standards consistent with the corporate and business world. Annual reviews are conducted as a continuous practice within our quality management system. Board directors meet monthly and their skills, commitment and combined knowledge are a real asset in setting the strategic direction as well as establishing the benchmark in regards to standards, values and practice.

Chairman of the Board
Lorna has been a Sylvanvale Board member and Chairman since 1999. In 2010 she received a 2010 Cook Community Classic Award due to her work with Sylvanvale.
Lorna has a long history of community work and a background in education. She has a Teacher’s Associate Diploma in Theory and Practice of Speech, as well as a Teaching of the Deaf Diploma.
She’s also President of the Women’s Pioneer Society of Australasia Inc., a board director for Hospital Contribution Fund of Australia (HCF), recently retired after 10 years as a trustee HCF Health, Medical and Research Foundation, a former local government councillor, former member of NSW Legislative Assembly, former member of Community Welfare Appeals Tribunal.
She is a director of family companies involved with property investments.

Deputy Chairman and Company Secretary

Dennis is a Sylvanvale parent and volunteer driver for Sutherland Shire Community Transport. Dennis joined the Sylvanvale Board in 1996 and became Deputy Chairman in 1999. Dennis also serves as Company Secretary.
Dennis has a Certificate in Hospitality, Catering and Business Management and has extensive experience in hospitality and management. He is also a retired service station proprietor.
He is a former member of the management committee of the Handicapped Children’s Centre (HCC) from 1976 to 1984, fundraising sub-committee of HCC and Sylvanvale Foundation and former chairman of New Era Independent Centre Living Inc.

Director

Michael has served as a board member since 2000.
He has a Bachelor of Commerce and has held senior financial manager positions for national and international companies. Michael has been a business consultant with Corporate Solutions providing financial and management advice for over 25 years.

Director
Richard has served as a board member since 2006.
He has a Bachelor of Arts with a Masters of Health Administration and has held the position of chief executive officer at a number of health and welfare organisations over some 30 years, including Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. of NSW, Montefiore Jewish Home, Womens and Childrens Hospital in Adelaide, Sutherland and Illawarra Area Health Services and Benevolent Society of NSW. Richard serves as Chairman of the Master Planning Committee.

Director
David was a Sylvanvale parent who has served as a board member since 2000 and is Chairman of the Audit, Risk Accreditation and Compliance Committee.
David has a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering and completed post graduate training in People and Financial Management. He is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a member of the Faculty Board for Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences at Adelaide University.
David is the Group General Manager of Technical Services at QANTAS and has over 25 years experience in aeronautical engineering and management.

Director
Brian has been a Board member since 2006 and currently serves as the Registered Company Auditor. He is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.
Brian is a Certified Practising Accountant and a partner and principal of Accounting Practices for 20 years. He is also the registered company auditor, aged care consultant and is the Director of the Board at John Paul Village.

Director

Kenneth has been a board member since 2009.
Kenneth is Certified Practicing Accountant and worked for Sydney Water 41 years. While there he represented employees to the Board of Management at Sydney Water for a decade.
He was elected to Sutherland Shire Council in 1987 through to 2008 and served as a member of all Council Standing Committees including Community Services, Works Finance and Management, Environment and Health Committee.
Kenneth is currently the Chairman of Board of Directors of St George/Sutherland Shire Business Enterprise Centre.

Director

Debbie joined the Board in 2011.
She has a Teachers Certificate from Dunedin Teachers College. Debbie has worked as a teacher in New Zealand and Australia and has also held broking and trading roles in the finance and banking sector.
Debbie is the owner and manager of an accommodation guest house in the Sutherland Shire.
Debbie has a long association with community organisations such as the Big Sister Foundation, Southern Sydney Therapy Centre, Gymea Community Aid and Information Service and the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre. Debbie also works as a foster carer on behalf of the Department of Community Services.

Director
Michael joined the Board in 2011.
Michael has a Bachelor of Commerce and Masters in Applied Finance.
He has had a long career in the finance and banking sectors in Australia and overseas. Michael brings to the Board a wealth of financial management knowledge.
