Investing in Inclusive Living in the Sutherland Shire
In 2024/25, Sylvanvale Foundation proudly supported the commencement of a new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) development in Illawong, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive, high-quality housing for people with disability.
Developed in partnership with Vista Build and Vic Lake Architects, this project builds on the success of our award-winning SDA investment in Bangor and represents another step forward in creating homes that are not only functional and accessible, but also embedded in the heart of the community.
To mark the beginning of construction, Sylvanvale hosted a sod-turning event attended by Mayor Jack Boyd, Jenny Ware (former Member for Hughes), Board Director David Rafferty, and other valued members of the local council and community. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative investment in disability housing and the role of community in shaping inclusive futures.
The Illawong development will accommodate up to eight residents eligible for SDA under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It includes a mix of housing types—a standalone three-bedroom home, a separate one-bedroom dwelling, and a duplex with two, two-bedroom residences—all built to High Physical Support and Robust SDA standards. Each residence will benefit from shared Onsite Overnight Assistance, ensuring 24/7 support via a dedicated staff hub.
Located near Menai Marketplace, the development is designed to foster community integration, enabling residents to engage with local services, activities and neighbours—an essential part of Sylvanvale Foundation’s vision for inclusive living.
“Our previous Bangor development demonstrated how innovative and accessible housing can transform lives. This new project in Illawong builds on that success, providing residents with a home that is functional, beautifully designed, and fully integrated within the local community.”
— Jeff McCarthy, Chairman, Sylvanvale Foundation
Construction began in March 2025 and is expected to be completed in early 2026. Interest in the property has already been strong, and we look forward to welcoming both existing and new clients to their new homes.
This development is a testament to Sylvanvale Foundation’s ongoing investment in creating inclusive communities where people with disability have access to housing that supports independence, safety, and belonging.
